It’s 9:07 a.m. and I’ve saved a life.
On my way to work this morning, with my headphones on, I see a man sitting on a bench in the distance. I see him convulsing. Then I see him fall to the ground. I rush over to him. He is convulsing, his eyes are rolled back, and saliva is dripping from his mouth. He is dying. I called 911. Was it an epileptic seizure or an overdose? I performed first aid. A woman walked by with her daughter, and I asked them for help and naloxone. In my mind, the man was going to die right in front of me. Miraculously, the woman told me she had a naloxone kit and that she was a nurse. I injected the first nasal dose. We wait a minute, two minutes… He gradually regains consciousness until the firefighters arrive.
In short, it’s 2:00 p.m., and I’m on my way to a demonstration against overdoses with my naloxone kit.
